Graham and Capote
JoanDidion.info has learned that Lally Weymouth, Graham’s daughter (a columnist), has distanced herself from the movie. At a party in New York, she reportedly said, “I want nothing to do with it.”
Charlie Rose, also a guest, mentioned that she might be more satisfied with the result if she was to speak with Didion, the HBO biopic’s writer. “Nothing doing,” she answered. “I didn’t even want my mother to write her own book.” She refers, of course, to Graham’s renowned memoir from 1998, “Personal History.”
www.NYDailyNews.com asked Didion to comment. She was conciliatory, saying: “[Lally] has nothing to worry about.” Apparently, Lally Weymouth’s concern may be the portrayal of herself, her siblings and her father, who had bipolar disorder and later committed suicide.
