Joan Didion, the accomplished journalist, essayist and novelist, will substitute for John Updike on May 12 as the final speaker in the Writers Center Stage series, sponsored by the Cuyahoga County Library Foundation.
Subscribers who have a ticket for the Updike evening at the Ohio Theatre in PlayhouseSquare will be able to use it to hear Didion, whose books — from 1968′s “Slouching Towards Bethlehem” to the 2005 memoir “A Year of Magical Thinking” — are considered important contributions to American letters.
