Dear Joan,

It was difficult to join many friends to the theater to see this play. They didn't want talk about death. I got only two. I had just finished the book, that touched me a lot, and I wanted hear more about Joan Didion experience and feelings, because it is a situation that can happens to everyone.
I am a 53 year old brazilian librarian, married, two children(teens), and I lost my parents few years ago. Since then, sometimes, I feel alone and sad, although I am a positive and happy person, most of time.
I think that is important to share experiences, including the hard ones.
I would like to greet you for your courage and sensitivity.
I liked your book and play very much!

Sincerely,

Eugenia Fava

ps: Excuse-me for some mistakes.

I saw a marvelous actress Helen Hedman in a performance of TYoMT in Washington, DC at the Studio Theatre. She unconditionally embodied the heartbreak, passion, cool, anger and sly wit of the piece. I found myself in tears as she was caught in the abyss (the vortex?), all alone, trying to keep her daughter safe, then laughing at her cognizance of her crossing the line by wearing scrubs into UCLA Medical Center. My hat is off to anyone who has the talent and courage to assail the play. I saw Hedman in the title role of "Piaf" a several years ago. She's darn good.
