I have just finished reading Joan’s “The Year of Magical Thinking” and wanted to thank her for writing it. My 36 year old son died in August, 2006. He was killed on impact in a collision caused by a drunk driver. I decided to read the book when I read the first paragraph: “Life changes in an instant. You sit down to dinner and life as you know it ends.” This paralleled my own experience in a way, and so much of the book helps to validate my “years of magical thinking” since I am still in the midst of mourning this senseless loss. (I also kept his shoes.) Joan, I am so sorry that you lost your daughter, too. I know the pain of loosing a child. I can only imagine the enormity of coping with the double loss. Another book which has also helped me is “The Worst Loss — How Families Heal from the Death of a Child” by Barbara D. Rosof. I also seek information to help with coping, and I write personal journals. Get well soon, Joan, and know that you have made a difference. Janet
